Three prestigious Facels are coming up for sale in the next few days, including a right hand drive Facel 11. However, first of all are two left hand drive cars in the very tasty RM Sotheby’s sale at Le Castellet or Circuit Paul Ricard in the south of France. 

This pair of Facels belong to Jean Guikas, a well-known dealer/collector/racer from nearby Marseilles. He hasn’t had either car very long, and he’s having a bit of a high level clear-out as the Facels feature among a wonderful collection of very desirable cars being sold by M Guikas. But he really wants to sell them; there is no reserve on either car. 

The Facel 11 is the car that was bought by a Greek direct from the Geneva car show in 1963; he waited until the show was over and then drove it home. It stayed in the same ownership until 2016 when it was auctioned and bought by M Guikas, one suspects, for quite a good price. The Excellence is the manual EX1-B052 originally purchased by Mrs Godfrey Fowler of Monaco (a manual Excellence in Monaco?)! It was sold to M Guikas as recently as 2020 and again has no reserve, but is left hand drive in spite of being recently registered in the UK. Its estimate is €150-€200,000. Finally – well, nearly – a little more notice that the ex-Kirkham Facel 11 which has been restored over the last couple of years, is coming up for sale again, this time at Historic’s Auctions sale at Mercedes-Benz World at Brooklands in Surrey on November 27. When this car was originally bought a couple of years ago, it was in poor condition; it has since been restored and has come up for sale a couple of times but without selling. Now its estimate is £200-£250,000.
